Since Apple launched the iPhone in 2007, it is considered to have led the new era of smartphones and has reached a super high market share in the global smartphone market.

iPhone is expensive and has not been able to account for more than 50% of the U.S. smartphone market, instead, Apple's rival Android phones, due to their open and free nature, and not that expensive as iPhone, they have captured the low-end and mid-range market and have been the highest share of the U.S. market.

According to the latest data from industry analysis firm Counterpoint Research, the iPhone's share of the U.S. smartphone market exceeded 50 percent for the first time in the second quarter of 2022, it is the highest since 2007. Counterpoint Research's market share data is based on "active installed base," which is simply a count of all phones still in use.

This is the first time the iPhone has surpassed Android phones in the U.S., reaching a market share of more than 50%, but in other agencies' statistics, Apple has long exceeded 50% of the market share in active installed base in many developed countries.

In the data provided by statcounter, In recent year, Japan's iPhone user share has been maintained at a high percentage approaching 70% at one time, and the minimum share is maintained at more than 60%.

Through these surveys, we can learn that the more developed the countries are, the greater the market share of iPhone, in developing and underdeveloped countries, the market share of Android is higher than Apple.

In the second quarter of this year, although the global smartphone shipments is down 7% year-over-year, iPhone's shipments is growing 3% year-over-year. With the milestone that the iPhone is now over 50% market share in the U.S. for the first time, Apple is consolidating its smartphone market leadership.
