In June, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union reached an agreement that in the Autumn of 2024, the charging port of electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets and cameras will be unified into the USB-C standard charging interface. This approach seems to be aimed at Apple, after all, most mobile phones’ charging interface are now replaced by USB-C ports, and only Apple has always used the Lightning port.

But in fact, Apple’s electronic devices began to switch to the USB-C interface a few years ago. At present, only the entry-level digital series of the iPad still use the lightning interface, and the Mac series on sale also use the USB-C interface.

The iPhone 14 series was confirmed that it will continue to use the lightning interface. Recently, some industry insiders said that Apple will convert at least five products to USB-C charging port in the near future.According to an earlier report by a Bloomberg reporter, Apple is already testing an iPhone with a USB-C interface, which may be in the iPhone 15 series to be released in 2023.

The second product is the 10th-generation of iPad that Apple will release in September. This iPad 10th will convert to the USB-C charging interface, which means that all Apple’s iPad products will say goodbye to the lightning interface.

The third product is AirPods. Once the iPhone and iPad serious are switched to the USB-C interface, other accessories charging port will also have to be switched. It is expected that Apple will release the AirPods Pro at the autumn conference in September, but it is uncertain whether it will switch to the USB-C interface or not.

In fact, in the long run, the advantages of the USB-C interface outweigh the disadvantages. Compared with the Lightning interface, USB-C interface has a faster transmission speed and it can also reduce the abuse and waste of cables and charging heads.
