Should you fix your broken MacBook, or is it better to buy a new one?

Whether we use a MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro, one thing is known -- even with the best protection, any one of them is likely to run into one or two problems after long-term use, such as a broken LCD screen, a dead battery, or some other hardware issue.

Should you fix your broken MacBook, or is it better to buy a new one?

Macbooks are expensive and often perform better than other computers. Because of this, MacBooks are generally used more than PCS. Macs are certainly popular, but like any computer, they wear out easily. This brings us to the most common MacBook problem encountered by these users.

Should you get your MacBook fixed, or is it better to buy a new one? It depends on several factors, like what's wrong with it? How old is it? Will the new MacBook be faster? What are my needs now? Have they changed since I bought them? These are all questions you need to consider before deciding what to do. Now, there are other factors to consider.

1. Check your MacBook warranty

First, if your MacBook is out of warranty, you'll be charged almost everywhere to get it fixed, and you'll probably have to pay at least a minimum fee of $80 to $100 just to let them look at it.

2. Check replacement MacBook parts

Next, do you need to replace the parts? How much do they cost? Again, it depends on what went wrong. If you spill a drink on the keyboard, it depends on how damaged the keyboard is and how old the MacBook is. For some MacBooks, this may require you to replace the entire case, since the battery, keyboard, and trackpad are integrated. Do you need to replace the logic board? It's expensive. The hard drive may be in trouble. Don't forget that while your machines are still running, they work continuously, and at some point, the heads and motors will wear out. Hard drives aren't too expensive, and you can also consider solid-state drives -- which will give your MacBook an endless performance boost. If you drop your keyboard or, as some do, but the keyboard cover back on and the pen on top of it, your screen needs to be replaced. The new screen could cost half as much as a new MacBook!

3. Remaining Mac lifecycle and availability

There is a point in the life of every computer where diminishing returns must be taken into account. All you know is that you can't add enhancements or anything to it to improve its performance, and while fixing it may give you more use, it won't be a long-term fix. At this point, it's most likely to be biting the bullet and buying a new one. As a general rule of thumb, it may be better to replace your MAC laptop if the repair cost is at least the same or more than a new one or the machine is simply too old to spend that kind of money. You get a more advanced MacBook that's faster, more efficient, and even better, and it comes with the most important warranty!
